<itunes:summary>Four mid-Missouri college students cope with their unhealthy video game obsessions by talking about them. A lot. Much of our conversations are dominated by recently released games, but we also indulge in reminiscing about our all-time favorites. And the occassional Venture Brothers reference for good measure. We are a goofy bunch, but we talk as much sense as we do nonsense.</itunes:summary>

Peripherals. Huh. Good God. What are they good for? We discuss our favorite peripherals that we own and spend plenty of time critizing ourselves over some of the more questionable purchases we've made, and tackle the viability of peripherals in the modern era in the wake of the controversial 3DS circle pad attachment. Plus impressions of the Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and Asura's Wrath Demos, AJ finished Kirby's Return to Dreamland and Bastion, Bryan finished Mafia II, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, and Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings and played Moon Diver, Outland, and Metroid Fusion, Jordan and Bryan played PixelJunk Shooter 2 and Magicka, Jordan played PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe and a certain PSP Final Fantasy fighting game he's fond of, and Chase continues to endure the stupidity of 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand. Plus we discuss the Resident Evil 6 trailer and the the troll-tastic version of Mega Man revealed for Street Fighter X Tekken, getting excited for the new SSX, and the new Steam app for mobile phones.

Since no games have come out the past 2 months, we decided to hold off until now to have a meaningful "game of the year thus far" discussion. For games we've played, we've got Infinity Blade and Sword and Sorcery for the iPad, Alice: Madness Returns, Catherine, Dynasty Warriors 6, Rock Band 3, Super Street Fighter IV, Mega Man X3, F.E.A.R. 3, Alpha Protocol, Metroid Fusion, and a way way way too long of a discussion about Chessmaster: The Art of Learning for the PSP. There's a red 3DS coming out with Star Fox 64 next month, Valve announced a new Counter-Strike, Peter Moore got promoted to COO of EA, the Catherine sales figures cake was slightly exaggerated, Microsoft accidentally gave people free MS points, and Nintendo's investors are suggesting the Big N make its first party software available for mobile devices. Special Guests: Corey Motley and Adnan Khan.

What does it mean to be part of a game community? Does just playing the game make you a member of the community and entitle you to certain benefits? We discuss the relevance of a community to a game's success, how developers can and have cultivated them, the power of user-generated content in fostering them, how MMO communities differ from all the rest, and whether or not we'd ever want to go to a gaming convention. Plus Ms. Splosion Man, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, Caster, CreaVurs, and news on a possible Rockstar movie studio, rumors of a revision of Marvel vs. Capcom 3, a Final Fantasy music/rhythm game, someone wanting to make a Stephen Colbert game, and Konami's "DDR Obesity Summit."

Regardless, we're all kind of obsessed with Marvel vs. Capcom 3 right now, so get ready to hear us geek out about it for a good 45 minutes straight. Plus some other inconsequential news. Just don't try any funny stuff.  2010 is winding down, so it's time to catch up on games we've missed, wrap up games once and for all, and pick and choose for our our Christmas lists.  Chase went on a Mario spending spree for DS, AJ finally closes the book (FINALLY) on Persona 3 Portable before returning to Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Bryan loves him some God of War: Chains of Olympus, and the concept of a game that gets easier every time you fail at it - ZHP: Unlosing Ranger vs. Darkdeath Evilman - is too much for Chase's brain to handle.  We contemplate the concept of a tutorial in a video game - which games do them properly and which do them poorly, and whether they should exist at all - and some current event news type things to start the show!

Instead you can hear us blab about some Minecraft, Dead Rising 2, Borderlands Claptrap's Robot Revolution DLC, Metroid: Other M, Civilization V, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, and Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. Plus the announcements about the 3DS date, pricing and capabilites have consumed our thoughts in the news segment. Also: don't be deceieved by the length of the show. Just stick around after the bloopers to hear a little something extra. Special Guest: Zach Fleeman (again!)

Internet power outages cannot stop the World 8 podcast, but they can turn AJ's voice into a garbled, incoherent mess.  But only for the first half!  Tokyo Game Show just happened and we're all excited by things like Phantasy Star Online 2, a new Final Fantasy Dissidia game, and the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus HD remasters, and dismayed by things like Dante's new meth-addict look and Kevin Butler just being a figment of our imaginations. We've been playing Halo: Reach, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, more Persona 3 Portable (guess who), and some Phantasy Star Online for old times' sake. Plus we cannot contain our excitement for Civilization V and the upcoming DLC for Borderlands, and we announce the winners of last episode's Plain Sight giveaway!

The Podcasting Gods were not smiling upon us this day, for our entire segment about which games we have been playing failed to record right under our noses. We'll make up for it next episode; we promise. A good time was still had by all, though, thanks to the wit and wisdom of special guest and UK native Alex Martin, who gives us some insight into the UK games market with Mafia II dominating the sales charts. The upcoming Xbox Live Gold price increase also sparks some debate, and Gearbox is moving heaven and earth to turn Duke Nukem Forever into a playable product. Stick around for the end of the show where you'll find out how to win a free copy of Plain Sight on Steam!

Special guest Erin Kaplan drives our first main topic with discussion of favorite "non-video" games - board games, tabletop, and the like. A whopping three topics dominate the majority of the show: preserving the legacy of games that heavily rely on online servers, the biggest foreseeable trends for gaming in the near future, and some examples of particularly well-designed games in our minds. It's AJ's last (live) show, but he STILL doesn't get any slack for wanting to talk about Persona, Team Fortress and Left 4 Dead all the time. But Dragon Quest IX just came out and has already consumed over 100 hours of Chase's life, so that's understandable. Two main topics: sidequests (which games should have them and how should they be implemented) and difficulty settings (ditto). Plus Alien Swarm, Limbo, more Crackdown 2, and too many games on Bryan's list to count. Special guest: Zach Fleeman from wekeepitreal.net

Most of us, for one reason or another, had Final Fantasy games on the brain, so our main discussion revolves around the concept of killing or removing characters from a cast mid-game and their ramifications, and special guest Danielle Doerr joins us for this second half of the show. AJ powers through Trauma Team, the number of people in the same room that play Team Fortress 2 reaches a record-breaking 3, Bryan is playing (watching?) Metal Gear Solid 4 and continues to soldier through 3D Dot Game Heroes, as well as try out Naughty Bear and Transformers: War for Cybertron, more MGS: Peace Walker, the Crackdown 2 demo, Jordan revisits Half-Life 2, Chase's seething hatred of Final Fantasy IV somehow translates into appreciation of an obscure Mega Man RPG he picked up for cheap on a whim, and special guest (#2) Michael Rousseau has incredibly exhausting impressions of Puzzle Quest 2 that go straight over the rest of our heads.

Jordan joins the crew! Newly released games we played include Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Torchlight for Mac, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Lost Planet 2, Bit.Trip RUNNER, and that hot new 2010 release: Shadow of the Colossus.

Jordan officially joins the crew to talk about Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands for Wii, Chase discovers Torchlight thanks to the launch of Steam for Mac, Bryan loves 3D Dot Game Heroes, Chase is the last line of defense against our Lost Planet 2 hate, we all fawn over Bit.Trip RUNNER, and a little more Super Street Figter IV, Final Fantasy XIII, Batman: AA and Left 4 Dead 2. Plus: Chase and AJ's MvC3 bet comes to an abrupt end, we do a complete 180 of last week's segment by discussing games we never want to play again, and apparently Shadow of the Colossus was so awesome that we talk about it for 20 minutes straight for the hell of it.

Other than Super Street Fighter IV, this was a "catch up on 2009" period for all of us. Bryan and AJ began a co-op journey through Resident Evil 5, AJ got hooked on Left 4 Dead 2 yet again thanks to The Passing DLC, and Chase finally started Batman: Arkham Asylum. Then we muse about a few more of our favorites from years past before reminding ourselves of games we started, but never finished, in an attempt to motivate ourselves to man up and finally put them to rest. Also: lots of nonsensical speculation over how the new Bungie-Activision partnership will pan out, and the start of a $10 bet between AJ and Chase over a certain character apppearing in Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

In our first episode featuring theme music and something resembling production values, we discuss our experiences playing Heavy Rain, Cave Story, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, a little more Warioware: D.I.Y, Tilt to Live, GeoDefense Swarm, Fable II, the Splinter Cell: Conviction co-op demo, and Plain Sight. (whew!) Rumors of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 are more real than ever, so of course we speculate over characters. We also have some things to say about the national television treatment of the Gears of War 3 announcement. And for some reason, we discuss the relative merits (or lack thereof) of George Lopez's comedy. Plus three more of our favorites of all time!
